Międzyrzecz Fortified Region

Tourists from all over the world visit the German fortifications at Międzyrzecz. A number of bunkers and cast-iron armoured cupolas still mark the woodland and the Panther-Wotan line. A segment of the immense underground shafts has been designated a nature reserve and is home to the biggest bat colony in Europe.

In times of war, underground factories were also operating along the Panther-Wotan line. One of those was used by Daimler-Benz for the production of parts for aircraft engines.

For a day trip, a visit to the fortifications combined with a visit to the world's biggest Christ statue in nearby Świebodzin is recommended.
